A 14-year-old girl, whom we will call Mujidat to protect her identity, has come forward with harrowing details of her experiences. The 14-year-old girl revealed that she engaged in sexual relationships with multiple men and became pregnant after having intercourse with three different people in close succession. She attributed her actions to a lack of care from her mother, stating that she felt pushed into such behavior.
According to Mujidat, her father, who has since passed away, was the one who violated her innocence at the tender age of 10. He sexually abused her while she was living with him, leaving her traumatized. She further explained that her father, who was a musician, continued this abuse for about a week before she finally left the house they shared.
Mujidat’s parents had separated when her father married another woman, who eventually left after a disagreement. Mujidat shared that her mother had children with three different men, with Mujidat and her two siblings having the same father, while her mother’s other four children belonged to two different fathers.
When a joint patrol of vigilante groups stopped Mujidat, she was riding a motorcycle, and she revealed shocking details about her story. It was almost midnight. Mujidat named Dayo and Sodiq as her sexual partners; after further investigation revealed she was pregnant, both men were taken into custody.
Olusegun Idowu, the Oluyole Security Surveillance Team (OSST) commander and commandant of the joint patrol, reported that vigilante group members had captured the teenager late at night. They got in touch with the OSST right away, and Mujidat was brought in to be questioned in order to obtain more details.
Dayo, a 27-year-old man who had been arrested, identified himself as a fashion designer who had just begun riding commercial motorcycles. He acknowledged that he had first met Mujidat when he picked her up as a passenger in December 2023. A few days later, they exchanged phone numbers and started talking. Dayo claimed that he courted Mujidat, who ultimately gave him a week of her time.
Dayo went on to say that because he was in a relationship with Mujidat, he wanted to know more about her family. She asserted that he could not meet her family, though. When Dayo’s landlord noticed Mujidat with him, he became worried and voiced his disapproval, claiming that she was not old enough. Dayo was therefore given the order to send Mujidat away, which he did without giving her any money.
Dayo, according to Sodiq, the second man arrested, introduced him to Mujidat. Sodiq admitted to having sexual relations with Mujidat once when she came to his place overnight. He mentioned that she was on her way to see him again late at night when a relative, who was a member of a vigilante group, stopped her.
During an interview with the Nigerian Tribune, Mujidat shared the traumatic events that led to her current situation. She revealed that her mother played a significant role in her downward spiral. After her father’s death, Mujidat and her brother went to live with their mother, but she did not provide them with proper care. Mujidat’s education was cut short when she reached primary school.
Before her father’s passing, Mujidat and her brother stayed with him after he married another woman. However, their father’s relationship with his new wife soured, and they eventually separated. Mujidat recalled that her father would bring women home when he visited her and her younger brother in Masfala.
When these women stopped coming, Mujidat’s father began sexually abusing her. She was only around 10 years old at the time, and the first incident occurred in the dark hours of the night. Mujidat was in pain and bleeding after the encounter, leaving her weak the following morning. When family members discovered her condition and she revealed what had happened, they did not believe her. They advised her to keep quiet to avoid causing embarrassment to the family.
The 14-year-old girl recounted a particularly brutal incident when she refused her father’s advances and told him she would sleep in the corridor instead. In a fit of rage, he threw her to the ground and struck her foot with a grinding stone. Although some family members stood up for her, his immediate family did not believe her accusations. Instead, they cursed her mother.
Mujidat’s stepmother took her to live with her paternal aunt in Lagos when she received an offer of accommodation. However, upon arrival, Mujidat discovered that her aunt was an adherent of the Osun religion. Instead of fulfilling her promise to continue Mujidat’s education, her aunt forced her to join the Osun worshippers and participate in rituals, including carrying a large calabash.
