Three top opposition leaders in Nigeria are thinking about joining forces for the 2027 presidential election.

Ibrahim Abdullahi, the national spokesperson for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), shared this news in an interview on September 2.

Abdullahi mentioned that former candidates Atiku Abubakar from the PDP, Peter Obi from the Labour Party, and Rabiu Kwankwaso from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) are willing to put aside their personal goals to create a strong alliance. Their aim is to defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027 Election and help the country fight hunger.

He noted that if the PDP had better managed internal conflicts in the past, prominent members like former Rivers State governor Nyesom Wike, Kwankwaso, and Peter Obi would still be with the party. This could have led to a win against Bola Tinubu of the APC in the last election.

Abdullahi said, “We lost important members like Kwankwaso and Peter Obi. If they had stayed, we might have won the election. The APC claimed they beat us by over a million votes. Just one of the leaders we lost could have changed the result, and we would be in power now. The country wouldn’t be facing such difficulties.”

When asked if the PDP is trying to bring Obi, Kwankwaso, Wike, and others back, Abdullahi confirmed that discussions are ongoing. He mentioned that Peter Obi has been seen talking with Atiku and meeting with Nasir El-Rufai. Managing a party is complicated, but they are doing their best in tough circumstances and believe there is hope for improvement. They have learned hard lessons.

If Obi and the others rejoin the PDP, Abdullahi said that one of them might step aside for another to lead, giving the party a clear direction. Their main goal is to rescue Nigerians from current problems like hunger and insecurity, which they believe are due to poor management by the current leaders in the 2027 Election.
