85 Motorcycles

The Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command carried out a successful operation, seizing a total of 85 motorcycles, commonly known as okadas, in various areas of the state. The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) enforcement team assisted the RRS, under the leadership of CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi, in carrying out the operation.

The crackdown targeted motorbikes that were operating on prohibited routes within the state. The RRS and LAMATA enforcement team visited several areas, including Ojodu Berger, Aguda (Ikeja), Iju Road, Agege, Iyana Ipaja Bridge, Abule Egba, and Ogba.

This recent operation follows a similar one conducted two weeks prior, where a total of 257 motorcycles were impounded under the leadership of CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi. The Commissioner of Police, CP Adegoke Fayoade, has assured the public that these efforts will be sustained until compliance is achieved.

In a related development, the Lagos State Task Force also took action against commercial motorcycles and squatters who had erected shanties along the rail tracks in the Fagba area. A total of 359 bikes were impounded, and several shanties were demolished as part of the follow-up exercise after the inauguration of the Red Line Rail project.

CSP Shola Jejeloye, the Task Force Chairman, has intensified the enforcement of the ban on motorcycles throughout Lagos. The state government has implemented this ban to enhance safety on major highways. The Task Force remains committed to ensuring compliance with this directive. The police will not take the 85 motorcycles they have seized lightly.
