President Bola Tinubu Appoints Dr. Temitope Ilori As First Female Director General Of NACA

First Female Director General Of NACA

President Bola Tinubu has made an important appointment within the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA). He has named Dr. Temitope Ilori as the new Director General (DG) of NACA, making her the first woman to hold this esteemed position in the agency’s history.

Dr. Temitope Ilori officially assumed her role as the DG of NACA on February 22, 2024. Prior to her appointment, she served as a senior lecturer in the Department of Community Medicine at the University of Ibadan and worked as a consultant family physician at the University College Hospital in Ibadan.

Dr. Ilori’s educational background is quite impressive. She obtained her MBBS degree from the University of Ibadan and completed her residency training at the University College Hospital in Ibadan [3]. In addition to her medical qualifications, she also holds a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science Degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics from the University of Ibadan. Currently, she is pursuing her PhD in the Department of Family Medicine and Primary Care within the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa.

The appointment of Dr. Ilori as the first female DG of NACA is a significant milestone in promoting gender diversity and women’s leadership in Nigeria’s public health sector. With her extensive expertise and experience in medicine, public health, and policy-making, she is well-equipped to contribute to NACA’s efforts in controlling and combating HIV/AIDS in Nigeria.
