The Rivers State Police Command says it has arrested a 16-year-old boy who allegedly defiled his 11-year-old schoolmate at the school premises in Rumukwurusi, outside Port Harcourt, last Friday.

It turns out that while the horny student was carrying out the act, his friends were watching the scene as he pushed the girl from behind and made his way to the school premises.

Shortly after committing the crime, the boy is said to have climbed over the school fence to escape, but was later arrested by school authorities, while the girl was taken to an unknown hospital for treatment.

The report sparked outrage as numerous photos of the bleeding student circulated online.

Meanwhile, on a Port Harcourt radio station (Nigeria Info) monitored by our correspondent, the girl’s mother called on school authorities and the state government to ensure that the perpetrator is brought to justice. The distraught woman, reportedly a widow, said she received an emergency call from the school to come immediately and when she got there, she saw her daughter bleeding profusely.

She said: “The school should take care of the boy who did this and I want justice for my daughter.” I am a widow and have no one. It’s just me and my kids. You should take care of the child. He shouldn’t be released at all because he may have done it to other people, but this time he won’t be released. And I want people to help me.”

He also said that his daughter lost a lot of blood in the incident.

“I received a call from the school telling me to come because it was an emergency. I had to run to school. When I got there, I saw my daughter bleeding profusely. The bleeding was too heavy.

“First, I had to ensure my daughter’s safety by taking her to the hospital while the child was still in the school’s care. They said they would deny me the child. The doctors haven’t said anything yet.At the moment they only care about her, but the situation remains like this, it is not improving and the money is expensive.”

The situation has sparked outrage on social media, with many condemning the act and calling for the arrest and criminal prosecution of the suspect.

When contacted, State Police Command spokesperson Grace Iringe-Koko confirmed the incident and said the student was arrested during ongoing investigations.

Iringe-Koko said: “The boy was arrested and the matter was referred to the State Criminal Investigation Department and Secret Service. The outcome of our investigation will be announced later.“
