According to the bulletin reporters, we report the death of two Christian leaders in Akwa Ibom State, killed in a shooting on Saturday evening.
Apostle Elisha Asuquo, founder of the Mount of Solution Redeemed Church (MSRC) in Ikot Ekang, and Pastor Aniekan Ibanga were shot by unknown assailants around 7:30pm at the church headquarters.
Eyewitnesses say several armed men rode into the church compound on a motorcycle during a parish meeting. They opened fire on Apostle Asuquo and Pastor Ibanga as worshippers looked on in horror. Despite efforts to rush the victims to the hospital, both men succumbed to their injuries.
Apostle Asuquo, from Adiasim village, was a well-respected figure helping to mediate a marital issue at the time of the attack. Pastor Ibanga, from a neighbouring community, led many youth programmes. Their tragic deaths have sent shockwaves around the traditionally peaceful area.
Detectives from the Akwa Ibom State Police Command are investigating. A spokesperson said efforts are underway to track down the killers. In the meantime, the community is on edge and seeking increased security. The double murder represents an alarming rise in violence that has many residents afraid.
Our thoughts are with the grieving families and congregation of MSRC church during this difficult time. Anyone with information about this crime should contact the police immediately.
