A devastating fire broke out on Wednesday at the intersection of Nnamdi Azikiwe and Docemo in the Idumota area of Lagos Island, Lagos State. Videos shared on social media platforms captured the intensity of the fire, which engulfed three buildings in the vicinity.
The state Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the incident on its official website, providing details of the affected structures. The fire damaged two two-story buildings and one three-story building. The Fire and Rescue Service swiftly deployed firefighters to the scene to contain the blaze and mitigate the damage.
Margaret Adeseye, the director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, issued a statement addressing the situation. She stated that the Fire and Rescue Service received the emergency call at 7:41 a.m. and promptly responded. Upon arrival at 07:58 hours, it was discovered that the fire had engulfed three buildings, including two two-story structures and one three-story building.
Adeseye further mentioned that firefighting efforts were underway at the scene. The fire stations at Ebute Elefun, Ilupeju, and Alausa mobilized their resources to effectively combat the fire. The cause of the fire is currently unknown, and investigations are ongoing. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported thus far.
The director urged residents to cooperate with emergency personnel and advised them to avoid the area for their own safety. It is crucial for the public to support the

This unfortunate incident brings to mind the fire that occurred in January, where over 6,700 traders lost their goods in the popular Mandilas building on Broad Street, Lagos Island. The impact of that fire destroyed 450 shops, 30 offices, two hotels, and five restaurants in the 14-story building, according to the National Emergency Management Agency.
