Terry G Discusses Portable’s Imitation Of His Style

In a recent podcast appearance, Nigerian singer Terry G opened up about his influence on others in the industry. When asked about viral star Portable, Terry G acknowledged that the rising artist picked up parts of his characterization. However, he felt Portable failed to replicate the full musical style and skill behind Terry G’s success.

He emphasized that his approach incorporates live instrumentation, which requires learning an instrument over time. He suggested that relying solely on vocals lacks depth and fails to capture the heart of his creative expression. While another aims to follow in his footsteps, Terry G wants proper homage paid to the musicianship that elevated his dynamic performances.

The interview also saw Terry G revisit past tensions with AY.Com He claimed besting AY.Com in a prior battle and producing the popular song “Pass Me Ur Luv,” where Terry G handled both the hook and a verse. While proud of this collaborative effort, he took issue with anyone denying him the right to perform his own work simply due to unpaid dues. As an artist who has battled to hone his multi-faceted talents, he refuses to be dictated to or have past victories undermined.

By candidly reflecting on career-defining moments, Terry G offers fellow creatives a thoughtful perspective on protecting one’s artistic vision and paying it forward. Both homage and fair compensation matter deeply to those who pour their heart and soul into perfecting a unique brand of musical magic.
