In a sad turn of events, Gbolahan Olugbemi, a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) attached to the Force Criminal Intelligence and Investigations Department (FCIID), has reportedly committed suicide in Oyo, Ogbomoso.

According to reports, the lifeless body of DCP Gbolahan Olugbemi, who previously served as an aide to former Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala, was discovered in his apartment with a noose around his neck.

While a full investigation is yet to be conducted to determine the exact cause of his death, a source has suggested that it appears to be a case of suicide.

DCP Gbolahan Olugbemi had recently returned home to celebrate Easter and was alone when he arrived at his residence on Petros Academy Street in the Federal Low-Cost area.

The deceased officer, believed to be in his 50s, had served as the Aide de Camp to the late Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala during his eleven-month tenure from 2006 to 2007.

Authorities have cordoned off his residence, and sympathizers have gathered in clusters, mourning the tragic loss of this brave officer who committed Suicide In Oyo.

According to a neighbor, DCP Gbolahan Olugbemi sometimes had police security with him, but he was often seen alone. His family was not frequently seen with him either.

The neighbor also disclosed that the man had been battling depression for quite some time.

DCP Gbolahan Olugbemi had been recognized for his effective policing and was recommended for commendation for his handling of the ENDSARS protests in 2020.

Prior to his untimely death, Olugbemi had served as the Divisional Police Officer in the Ilupeju Area Commander in Ajah and had worked as a personal assistant to two former Commissioners of Police in Lagos State.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Oyo State Command, SP Adewale Osifeso, stated that he was occupied with his superior and unable to provide further information at that moment.
