Pelumi Nubi

Pelumi Nubi, a 28-year-old UK-based Nigerian travel content creator and solo driver, has donated the car she used for her epic London-to-Lagos road trip to the J. Randle Center for Yoruba Culture and History. Pelumi embarked on her journey in January and successfully completed it after 68 days on the road, arriving in Lagos on April 7, 2024.

Her incredible adventure took her through 17 countries, including England, France, Spain, Morocco, and the West Sahara Desert. Upon her arrival in Lagos, Pelumi received a warm welcome from the Honorable Commissioner of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, and the Special Adviser, Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Idris Aregbe.

Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the governor of Lagos State, hosted Pelumi during her visit to the state house in Ikeja. In a momentous announcement, the governor named her as the Tourism ambassador for the state. He also presented her with a car and a house as gifts, along with an assurance that the state would cover the expenses incurred during her journey.

Governor Sanwo-Olu encouraged Pelumi to explore and experience the various attractions of Lagos, urging her to “tell the Lagos story” she had witnessed. He specifically mentioned train rides, boat rides, and other unique experiences that would allow her to truly discover her home and share her experiences with the world.

In a confirmation post on X by Jubril Gawat, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, it was announced that Pelumi had generously donated the vehicle she used for her trip to the Lagos State Government. The car will be a monumental gift to the J Randle Center for Yoruba Culture and History.

On January 23, 2023, in Lagos, former President Muhammadu Buhari granted the John Randle Center for Yoruba Culture and History authority. This important organization is committed to protecting and advancing the Yoruba people’s rich cultural legacy.

The London-to-Lagos Driver charity decision to donate her automobile to the J. Randle Center demonstrates her passion for preserving Nigerian culture and her profound admiration for it. Her story and the donation that followed inspire many, showing the ability of one person to have a positive impact on their community.
