The Federal Government has established a 17-man Inter-Ministerial Committee tasked with organizing a memorable and fitting celebration for the upcoming 2024 Democracy Day Anniversary. The committee, inaugurated by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, will be responsible for coordinating the various activities of the celebration.

During the inauguration, the SGF emphasized the significance of commemorating Democracy Day as an opportunity to reflect on the contributions and sacrifices made by national heroes and heroines in the fight for democratic governance in the country. He expressed delight in welcoming the committee members and highlighted the importance of recognizing the achievements and progress made in addressing the social and economic challenges faced by the nation.

The proposed activities for the 2024 Democracy Day Celebration include a World Press Briefing on June 6th, 2024, a Juma’at Service on June 7th, 2024, a Church Service on June 9th, 2024, a Symposium/Public Lecture on June 10th, 2024, and the highlight of the celebration, the Presidential Broadcast and Parade on June 12th, 2024.

To ensure the smooth and successful execution of the celebration, the SGF also inaugurated eleven sub-committees. These sub-committees include the Church Service Sub-Committee, Juma’at Sub-Committee, Protocol Sub-Committee, Venue and Entertainment Sub-Committee, Medical Sub-Committee, Security Sub-Committee, Media and Publicity Sub-Committee, Parade Sub-Committee, Public Lecture/Symposium Sub-Committee, Accommodation Sub-Committee, and Secretariat Sub-Committee.

With the establishment of the Inter-Ministerial Committee and its sub-committees, the Federal Government aims to ensure a well-coordinated and successful celebration of the 2024 Democracy Day. This celebration serves as a platform to honor the nation’s democratic journey and the individuals who have played significant roles in its advancement.
