A woman identified as Hajara Yusuf appeared before the Chief Magistrate Court 2 in Yola, Adamawa State on Wednesday, April 24. She is accused of pouring scalding cooking oil on a man during a dispute over N100.
Hajara, who resides in Lakare community in Yola South LGA, admitted to causing grievous harm to the victim, Adamu Abubakar. The severity of the injuries prompted the presiding Magistrate, Musa Alhaji Adamu, to refer the case to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further investigation.
The court proceedings were adjourned until May 8, 2024, to allow the police command to complete their investigation and prepare for the defendant’s prosecution.
The incident took place on April 22, 2024, when an argument erupted between Hajara and Adamu over the payment of N100 for a soya bean cake. In the heat of the altercation, Adamu slapped Hajara, triggering her to retaliate by pouring hot groundnut oil from her frying pan onto his neck, chest, and back, causing severe burns.
