The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released the results of the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). According to the bulletin report, out of the 1,842,464 candidates whose results were released, a staggering 78% UTME candidates failed to score 200 out of 400 marks.
Here is a breakdown of the results:
- 8,401 candidates scored 300 and above
- 77,070 candidates scored 250 and above
- 439,974 candidates scored 200 and above
- 1,402,490 candidates scored below 200
JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, explained that the board does not publish the names of its best-performing candidates as the UTME is considered a ranking examination. He emphasized that admission to tertiary institutions is determined by various parameters, making it unrealistic to declare a single highest scorer.
In addition, the results of 64,624 UTME candidates have been withheld by JAMB for investigation. Oloyede also mentioned that out of the 1,989,668 candidates registered for the UTME, 80,810 were absent from the examination.
JAMB conducts the examination in nine foreign centers, including Abidjan, Addis Ababa, Buea, Cotonou, London, Jeddah, and Johannesburg. The purpose of these foreign centers is to promote Nigerian institutions globally and showcase the universality of academic traditions.
As the board continues to fine-tune arrangements for the 2024 UTME in these foreign centers, it urges the public to verify claims by candidates before offering any awards or prizes based on their performance.
