Top US intelligence officials are worried that China and Russia will work together to invade Taiwan. The leaders spoke during a meeting with politicians in Congress.
Avril Haines is the boss of America’s intelligence community. She said China wants Russia to help with Taiwan, and there’s no reason to think they won’t. Another official named Jeffrey Kruse, who leads the Defense Intelligence Agency, agrees.
Kruse said the military is more concerned about fighting China and Russia at the same time. A senator asked what would happen if both countries attacked the island.
Haines explained that China and Russia are getting along better than ever before. They support each other even when other nations don’t like them. This makes it more possible that they will team up against Taiwan.
If China cooperates with Russia, it would be much harder for Taiwan and America to stop an attack. The US military worries about fighting both large countries working together. Political leaders need to do more to convince China not to invade.
The officials believe China may take advantage of Russia being busy with war in Ukraine. Beijing could pressure Taiwan in other ways too, like small incidents at sea. Helping with this fits what China and Russia want in Asia and elsewhere.
Experts say politicians must address this serious problem now to avoid conflict. If China and Russia move closer to attacking Taiwan, America will need to respond strongly to defend the island and keep Asia safe.
