May 8, 2024, Mavin Records proudly celebrates its 12th anniversary as one of Africa’s most influential entertainment companies. Since its inception, Mavin has played a pivotal role in shaping Afrobeats, both as an industry and as a genre, leaving an indelible mark on the global music landscape.
Founded in 2012 by the visionary Don Jazzy, Mavin Records emerged as a beacon of creativity and talent in the African music scene. Building upon the legacy of the now-defunct Mo Hits Records, Don Jazzy’s vision for the future of Afrobeat took flight, propelling Mavin to unprecedented heights.
Over the past 12 years, Mavin has served as a nurturing ground for some of Afrobeats’ most iconic artists, producers, and industry professionals. With a commitment to excellence and innovation, the label has consistently led from the front, positioning itself as a platform for global stars such as Tiwa Savage, Wande Coal, Korede Bello, and many more in the early 2010s. Today, Mavin Records is home to a new generation of talent, including Rema, Ayra Starr, Ladipoe, Johnny Drille, Crayon, Bayanni, Boy Spyce, Lifesize Teddy, and DJ Big N.
In its quest for inclusivity and to support every facet of the industry’s creativity, Mavin expanded its roster in 2022 by adding producers Andre Vibez, Jvxn, Prestige, and Sevn, as well as songwriters Mbryo and Milar. This move further solidified the label’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of industry leaders. Additionally, Mavin Records remains dedicated to shaping the future of the music industry through initiatives like the Mavin Future Five program, which provides aspiring music professionals with hands-on experience and mentorship.
Reflecting on this milestone, Don Jazzy, the founder of Mavin Records, expressed his gratitude to everyone who has contributed to the label’s success over the past 12 years. He emphasized that Mavin is not just building a legacy for itself, but for Nigeria, Africa, and the global music community as a whole.
Tega Oghenejobo, the Chief Operating Officer of Mavin Records, echoed Don Jazzy’s sentiments, stating that while the label is proud of its accomplishments thus far, there is still much more work to be done. With an unwavering ambition, Mavin aims to continue breaking new talents, expanding into more territories, and contributing to the development of Africa and its incredibly talented human capital.
As Mavin Records celebrates its 12th anniversary, it continues to push the boundaries of creativity and excellence. The recent acquisition of a majority stake in Mavin Records by Universal Music, the largest music label in the world, in a multi-million dollar deal, further solidifies the label’s position as Nigeria’s leading record label. This partnership serves as a testament to the remarkable achievements of Mavin and its ongoing commitment to elevating African music on a global scale.
As we look to the future, Mavin remains dedicated to nurturing talent, fostering creativity, and leaving an indelible mark on the music industry. Here’s to 12 years of groundbreaking achievements and many more to come. Happy anniversary, Mavin Records!
