In a tragic incident, a middle-aged man named Khalid Bichi was shot and killed by unknown gunmen in Maitama, Abuja. The incident occurred on Friday evening, just before 9 pm, while Bichi was out to get food. Bichi, an employee of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), was shot multiple times and was rushed to Maitama General Hospital. Sadly, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The FIRS official, Khalid Bichi was known for his active presence on social media, where he used the username @KhalidBichi. He had connections with influential politicians, adding to the shock and grief surrounding his untimely death. A funeral prayer was held at Abuja National, followed by his burial at 1:30 pm.
In another unfortunate event, thirteen individuals were recently abducted in the secluded community of Piko, located in the Bwari Area Council of Abuja. The attack took place last Sunday and lasted for about an hour without any resistance. This incident marks the latest assault on the Council, raising concerns about security in the area.
Chief John Jatau, the Madaki of Piko, confirmed that ten locals, including four nomadic Fulani herdsmen, were taken from the community during the attack. According to sources, one of the Fulani herdsmen managed to escape from the captors. The kidnappers are now demanding a ransom of N900 million Naira for the release of the abducted individuals.
The victims who are still in captivity include Nuhu Anyiwoyi, Emmanuel Nuhu, Danjuma Ali, Parisa Numa, Ezekiel Jatau, Shekwosa Ezekiel, Roseline Samuel, Salome Jacob, Abyelo Ezra, and Ezra Male. The kidnapping occurred on Sunday, May 5th, 2024, around 11 pm. The kidnappers took advantage of the lack of telecommunication network in the village, making it difficult for the community to seek immediate help or contact authorities.
The Madakin Piko revealed that the kidnappers have made contact and demanded a ransom of N900 million. It is a distressing situation for the community, especially for the families of those who are still held captive. Efforts are underway to secure the safe release of the abducted individuals and bring the perpetrators to justice.
