Pastor William Folorunsho Kumuyi, the General Overseer and founder of Deeper Life Bible Church, has announced his relocation to London, United Kingdom. This was revealed in a viral video from an interview on an unspecified UK media platform. Pastor Kumuyi shared that although he is originally from Nigeria, he now resides in London. He highlighted the growth of Deeper Life Bible Church, which began in 1973 with 15 members and now boasts around one million members in Nigeria, with global expansion to over 60 countries and 40 branches in the UK alone.

Kumuyi’s move to the UK has stirred a range of reactions from Nigerians on social media, many of whom criticized him for relocating. The criticism is partly rooted in past controversies. In August 2023, Pastor Kumuyi faced backlash for urging Nigerians to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration amidst disputes over Tinubu’s electoral victory and educational background. Pastor Kumuyi had advised Nigerians to refrain from criticizing Tinubu and his ministers, expressing confidence that they would positively contribute to the nation’s development.

The video confirming Kumuyi’s relocation has sparked debate about its authenticity and timing. Some netizens claim the footage is old, with one user suggesting it dates back to 2011, predating Tinubu’s presidency. Nonetheless, the video’s circulation has intensified discussions, with critics accusing Pastor Kumuyi of hypocrisy for relocating while advising Nigerians to remain hopeful and supportive of the country’s leadership.

Overall, Kumuyi’s relocation and the reactions it has elicited underscore the complex dynamics between religious leadership, political opinions, and public sentiment in Nigeria.
