A 13 year-old boy named Wisdom Hashimu has taken his own life after allegedly being brutally assaulted by a soldier and members of the civilian Joint Task Force (JTF) in the Ungwan Maigero Community. The incident occurred on Thursday, June 6, 2024.

13 year-old boy Wisdom, who lived with his parents in the same local government area, was said to have suffered severe beatings after being accused of stealing ₦10,000 from a neighbor. The accused soldier, serving at Bodi Camp in Port-Harcourt, reportedly took the matter into his own hands instead of involving the police. Wisdom and the neighbor’s brother were taken to the civilian JTF office, where further beatings ensued.

Despite receiving medical attention and returning home, tragedy struck on Thursday when Wisdom’s lifeless body was found hanging from a noose at the back of their compound in the absence of his parents.

The grieving parents of the deceased are now seeking justice and calling on the government to take action against those responsible for their son’s death. Wisdom’s father recounted the events leading up to the tragedy, expressing his shock and distress.

The family demands that those involved in the brutal assault on their son be held accountable, emphasizing that justice must be served to prevent such incidents in the future. While they mourn the loss of their son, they hope that their plea will serve as a deterrent and bring about the necessary actions to prevent similar tragedies from occurring again.

The community and authorities are urged to address this grave matter and ensure that due process is followed in seeking justice for the 13 year-old boy Wisdom Hashimu.
