A Federal Capital Territory High Court in Apo has handed down a seven-year prison sentence to Quadri Adeyinka, an Immigration officer, for his involvement in passport fraud. Adeyinka faced charges related to gratification, conferment of corrupt advantage, and cheating, as specified by the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000, and the Penal Code Act.
The case against Adeyinka arose from an incident where he allegedly received a bribe of N100,000 from Ovie Ojeffia to facilitate the regularization of his passport. However, Adeyinka failed to fulfill his promise and complete the necessary procedures. Ojeffia subsequently reported the matter to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), leading to the investigation and subsequent trial of the accused.
According to a statement released by the ICPC, Adeyinka was found guilty of all the charges brought against him. The judge, Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie, sentenced him to seven years for counts 1 and 2, five years for count 4, and two years for count 3.
