The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has taken action against the sale of unsafe and unregistered aphrodisiac products and sex enhancement drugs in Sokoto. During routine patrol operations across markets in Sokoto and its environs, NAFDAC’s patrol team seized cartons of these products worth ₦12 million.
Garba Adamu, the NAFDAC Coordinator in Sokoto, revealed that the seized products were deemed highly unsafe due to the presence of dangerous ingredients in their preparations. Additionally, the packages of these products displayed pornographic pictures, making them an eyesore.
Adamu urged the public to avoid purchasing such products from unlicensed sources and to only buy registered and safe products from licensed outlets. He emphasized the importance of reporting any hawkers or dealers of these products to NAFDAC, as well as any adverse reactions experienced after consuming regulated products.
It was also discovered during the operation that some marketers engage in the illegal practice of dumping expired or nearing expiration date products in Sokoto markets. Others transport such products to border markets and rural areas for sale. Adamu cautioned traders against selling adulterated, counterfeit, unregistered, and expired goods, stating that NAFDAC would continue to enforce strict measures.
In an effort to ensure the circulation of quality and appropriate products in the markets, NAFDAC extended its operation to include agrochemicals and cosmetics stores. Adamu urged Nigerians to always check for NAFDAC registration levels and verify the manufacturing and expiry dates of items before using them.
The NAFDAC Coordinator expressed gratitude to sister agencies, law enforcement agencies, traders’ associations, and individuals for their support in safeguarding public health. With their collaborative efforts, NAFDAC remains committed to protecting the well-being of the Nigerian population.
