One of the most popular video streaming platform, Netflix, has shockingly again increased its subscription prices in Nigeria with its Premium Plan going up from 5,000 to N7,000 per month.
As per the latest information on the company’s website, the Standard plan subscription, favored by Nigerian viewers for its HD quality and multi-screen features, has risen from N4,000 to N5,500. This marks a massive increase in the subscription cost.
Netflix increasing its subscription in Nigeria shows that they are less concerned about the economic hardship in the country, with the Basic plan jumping from N2,900 to N3,500 and the Mobile plan skyrocketing from N1,200 to N2,200.
This price adjustment follows the streaming giant’s previous review in April 2024, where the Standard plan increased from N3,600 to N4,000. The Premium plan also saw a hike to N5,000 from N4,400, while the Basic plan remained at N2,900 and the Mobile plan rose to N1,600 from N1,200.
Netflix stated that these adjustments are part of a global strategy to align subscription fees across different regions, with similar price changes seen in key markets like the US, UK, and France.
The timing of these price hikes coincides with Nigeria’s economic challenges, including rising inflation and a cost of living crisis. As household budgets tighten and consumer priorities shift, the affordability of streaming services may become a growing concern for many Nigerians.
