Activist Seeks Travel Restrictions on Mohbad’s Wife Amid Investigation

Prominent human rights activist Akinola Adelabu-Soul has written to several embassies requesting travel restrictions for Omowunmi, the late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, also known as Mohbad, and their son Liam. The letter from Adelabu-Soul, headed “Urgent Request to Monitor and Prevent Departure of Mohbad’s Wife and Child,” emphasizes the importance of being watchful in light of Mohbad’s untimely passing and the ongoing investigation into the incident.

Adelabu-Soul highlights in the letter, which is addressed to thirteen consulates—the consulates of the United States, Brazil, France, Italy, Russia, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Germany, Cyprus, Greenland, Canada, South Korea, and China—the shock and uncertainties surrounding Mohbad’s sudden death. He claims that Omowunmi was very important in Mohbad’s life and that the circumstances surrounding his passing are still delicate.

Adelabu-Soul kindly requests that the embassies hold off on allowing Omowunmi and their child to leave Nigeria until the investigation is finished. The activist contends that openness and accountability depend on their being in the nation at this pivotal time. The letter also copies the Nigeria Immigration Service and the Lagos State Police Command headquarters.

Travel restrictions are necessary, according to Adelabu-Soul, but Taiwo Olawanle, Wunmi’s attorney, disagrees with the activist’s actions. According to Olawanle, Adelabu-Soul lacks the authority to make this kind of request, and his client has no intention of leaving the nation. The police and the court are already looking into the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death, according to Wunmi’s attorney, and Wunmi is determined to learn the truth.

Social media debates erupted after Mohbad, a 27-year-old former signee of Naira Marley’s Marlian Music, passed away on September 12. Naira Marley and Balogun Eletu, better known as Sam Larry, were taken into custody after the Lagos State Police Command formed a special investigation team to look into his death. Mohbad’s body was dug up in September 2023 so that an autopsy could be performed to ascertain the cause of his demise.

Akinola Adelabu-Soul and other activists are demanding accountability and transparency while the investigation is ongoing. The results of the ongoing investigation will give his family, friends, and fans closure and clarify the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death.
