The Bauchi State Police Command has successfully apprehended three suspected criminals in connection with the theft of a motorcycle in the Gidan Ruwa area of the state. The spokesperson for the command, SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, confirmed this development in a statement released on Friday, March 22, 2024. According to the statement, the suspects stole a motorcycle worth N400,000 and subsequently sold it for N100,000.
The suspects, in an attempt to enjoy the ill-gotten proceeds, reportedly lodged in a hotel in Bauchi for one night with their girlfriends. They also purchased hard substances, cigarettes, and codeine syrup using the money they obtained from the sale of the stolen motorcycle.
Thanks to the relentless efforts of the detectives, the stolen motorcycle, as well as a fabricated metal object believed to have been used in the theft, were recovered from the suspects. Additionally, a sum of nine thousand naira was also confiscated from them.
The statement from the Bauchi State Police Command read, “In its unwavering commitment to sustain intelligence-led policing aimed at creating safe public spaces and denying criminal elements an avenue to thrive in the state, the operatives attached to the Area Command Metro Bauchi have arrested three suspects for criminal conspiracy and theft.”
The statement further explained that upon receiving information on March 15, 2024, regarding the theft of a motorcycle valued at N400,000 near the Gidan Ruwa area of Bauchi State, the Area Commander Metropolitan swiftly dispatched operatives to the scene to initiate an investigation.
As a result of the intensive investigation, the prime suspects, identified as Yusuf Adamu (also known as Dan Sarki), aged 30, Mohammed Sanusi, aged 20, and Masa’ud Ibrahim, aged 20, were apprehended on March 22, 2024. During interrogation, the suspects confessed to using a fabricated metal object, known as “Kati or Chori,” to unlock the motorcycle’s ignition. They admitted to selling the stolen motorcycle for N100,000.
Further investigation revealed that the proceeds of the crime were shared among the suspects. One of the masterminds, who is currently at large, took thirty thousand naira, while the remaining seventy thousand naira was divided among the three arrested suspects. They utilized the money to spend a night in a hotel in Bauchi and purchase illegal substances, cigarettes, and codeine syrup for their girlfriends.
It was also discovered that two of the three arrested suspects were already on court bail for similar offenses, while another suspect had previously been convicted for breach of trust and cheating but was granted a state pardon in 2022.
The Bauchi State Police Command assured the public that the suspects would be charged to court once the investigation was completed, emphasizing that they would face the full consequences of their actions in accordance with the law.
