Bobrisky and VeryDarkMan

Nigeria's Criminal Justice System

Nigeria’s criminal justice system is currently under scrutiny following claims made by crossdresser Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky. Activist lawyer Madubuachi Idam expressed significant concern over these allegations, which stemmed from an audio leak by Martins Vincent Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan.

In the leaked audio, Bobrisky purportedly admitted to paying a N15 million bribe to officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to have money laundering charges against him dropped. Furthermore, Bobrisky claimed he avoided a six-month prison sentence at Kirikiri by staying in a lodge, facilitated by his godfather.

Idam stated that this situation puts the entire Criminal Justice System/administration at stake, highlighting the possibility that certain convicts may be allowed to serve their sentences in more comfortable conditions than others. To address these allegations thoroughly, Idam emphasized the need to investigate without making scapegoats of Bobrisky or VeryDarkMan.

He suggested that Bobrisky should be assured of his safety and encouraged to disclose all involved parties to reveal the truth. This includes verifying where Bobrisky spent his supposed imprisonment term and identifying who accepted money to drop some of his charges.
