The Enugu Youth group has declared their stance against engaging in any form of disruptive protests amidst the growing challenges of hunger and economic hardship in Nigeria.
During a recent press briefing in Enugu, the group, representing all 17 local government areas of Enugu State, emphasized their dedication to upholding peace and stability within the state. Despite acknowledging the severe national circumstances, which include widespread hunger, financial constraints, and high debt levels, the group’s Publicity Secretary, Jude Aniagu, highlighted the significant strides being made in Enugu State under Governor Peter Mbah’s leadership.
While they recognize the rationale behind the proposed Nationwide Hunger Protest slated for August 1-10, 2024, the group is urging fellow youths to reconsider participating in the protest. They point to the positive advancements and revitalization taking place in Enugu State as reasons to abstain from the protest activities.
Expressing concerns about the potential hijacking of the protest by malevolent people and miscreants, the group emphasized the importance of preserving their collective heritage. They emphasized that Enugu State, known for its peace and productivity, must not regress into chaos and infrastructure decay due to the repercussions of a nationwide protest.
The Enugu youth group has called for a peaceful resolution through dialogue between the government and youths to address unemployment and poverty challenges, especially among the younger population.
Recognizing Governor Mbah’s efforts in job creation through innovative programs in Information Technology and Entrepreneurship, the group emphasized the importance of aligning with the state’s vision for progress rather than risking lives in protests. They highlighted the potential destruction of Enugu’s progress and infrastructure under Governor Mbah’s administration if the protest were to escalate.
In conclusion, the Enugu Innovative Youth group’s message resonates with a call for peace, dialogue, and collaboration to foster development and prosperity in Enugu State, steering clear of actions that could jeopardize the state’s growth and stability.
