Bodies of Access Bank CEO Herbert Wigwe, Wife And Son Arrive Nigeria For Burial

It is with deep sorrow that the bodies of Access Bank CEO Herbert Wigwe, his wife Margaret, and their son Michael have arrived in Nigeria after they passed away in a tragic car accident in London last week.

The remains were received at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja by grieving family members, friends, and business associates for burial. The banking community is in mourning following the sudden loss of Herbert, a widely respected leader who steered Access Bank to becoming one of Nigeria’s top-tier lenders.

Under his chairmanship since 2005, the bank has seen tremendous growth in digital transformation, expansion into major African markets, and strong financial performance. Herbert was also very active in promoting Nigeria’s economic agenda globally. He will be remembered for his vision, integrity, and dedication to excellence.

Plans are underway for a memorial service in Lagos before the family is laid to rest later this week, according to Islamic rites. Our thoughts are with the Wigwe relatives during this difficult time. May the Almighty grant the departed souls eternal peace and comfort their loved ones.

The Nigerian banking sector has lost a talented leader. Herbert Wigwe made indelible contributions and will be deeply missed. Our prayers are with his family, friends, and the entire Access Bank family. May his soul rest in perfect peace.
