Man Arrested And Paraded For Killing A Monkey In Awka

In Awka, a man has been arrested and paraded for killing a monkey, which is considered prohibited and against the tradition of the community. Monkeys in Awka, Anambra State, are regarded as sacred beings or products of the gods and are known as Enwe Imo Awka. According to the tradition, anyone who kills a monkey must bury it like a human and conduct a funeral ceremony.

  • The man, who is said to be a hunter from another town, was caught by the youths of the community after he killed two monkeys.
  • The incident was captured in a video where the hunter is seen carrying the deceased monkeys while being paraded by the youths to the Igwe’s palace for questioning and to arrange for the burial of the monkeys.
