Renowned clergyman, Mike Bamiloye, has recently expressed his concerns regarding the state of marriage among Nigerian youths. Taking to social media, he highlighted that many young people are inadequately preparing themselves for the institution of marriage. Bamiloye emphasized that they often prioritize the grandeur of the wedding day over the lifelong commitment of marriage itself. Lamenting this trend, he noted that these young ones lack a deep understanding of marital dynamics and are ill-prepared to navigate challenges that arise within a marriage.

Bamiloye shared the story of a young woman who, despite her beauty, lacked essential qualities to be a suitable wife. He cited her inability to cook, weak spiritual foundation, and limited knowledge of domestic management as signs of unpreparedness for the responsibilities of marriage. He further highlighted the materialistic mindset prevalent among many young women, who invest significant time in wedding preparations but neglect the necessary study of marriage itself.

While denouncing abuse against women, Bamiloye also expressed his concern that young people, particularly women, are being taught how to quickly exit marriages when faced with difficulties. He emphasized the importance of endurance, respect, perseverance, and patience in sustaining a marriage, urging individuals to sharpen the rough edges and work through challenges rather than seeking immediate separation.

Bamiloye reminded individuals that courtship should serve as a period of prayerful observation, during which potential red flags may be revealed. He urged couples to address any issues and groom each other for a successful marital union. He concluded his message by encouraging patience, endurance, self-reflection, and adherence to biblical principles, cautioning against hasty decisions and the influence of those promoting the dissolution of marriages.

In his closing remarks, Mike Bamiloye stressed the significance of seeking God’s guidance and addressing personal shortcomings before considering divorce, referencing the biblical verse Malachi 2:16, which emphasizes the Lord’s aversion to divorce. He urged individuals to prioritize prayer, introspection, and seeking solutions rather than hastily abandoning marital commitments.
