Chima Udoye has emerged as the winner of the ninth season of Nigerian Idol after months of intense competition with some of Nigeria’s best performers and vocalists. The finale, which took place on Sunday, July 14, 2024, was filled with electrifying performances and memorable moments.

The live shows kicked off with the top 10 contestants performing John Legend’s “Glory” before the winners took the stage. Progress, the winner of Nigerian Idol Season 7, performed alongside the Bigi Idol winner, while Victory Gbakara, the winner of Nigerian Idol Season 8, showcased an original song he wrote before his own season’s finale. Guest performers such as Chike and Simi added to the excitement, and the top three finalists gave stunning performances. Ultimately, Chima was crowned the winner.

Chima captivated the judges – 9ice, Omawumi, and Ric Hassani – throughout the season with his onstage charisma and vocal dexterity. Omawumi even remarked during the finale that Chima was in competition with himself, a testament to his incredible growth and potential beyond the confines of the show.

Specializing in jazz and soul music, Chima had expressed his desire to not only showcase his vocal prowess but also inspire others through the Nigerian Idol platform. Twelve weeks later, he has emerged as the deserving winner.

Dr. Busola Tejumola, Executive Head of Content & Channels, West Africa, MultiChoice, commended Chima during her speech at the finale, recognizing the resilience and determination it took for him to reach this point.

As the winner of Nigerian Idol Season 9, Chima was awarded a cash prize of ₦30 million, a brand new SUV, a DStv Explora, and a one-year premium subscription. Additionally, he secured a music deal and a music video, further propelling his career in the music industry.

Chima’s victory marks the culmination of a remarkable journey on Nigerian Idol, and fans are excited to see what the future holds for this talented artist as he continues to inspire and entertain audiences with his extraordinary talent.
