Manchester City and England star Phil Foden has been named the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year for the 2023/24 season. It caps a stunning individual campaign for the talented playmaker.

Phil Foden polled 42% of the vote from FWA members to win the prestigious award, beating out Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice and his City teammate Rodri in second and third place respectively. Others in the top six were Martin Ødegaard, Ollie Watkins, and Cole Palmer.

At just 23 years old, Foden has become one of the faces of English football with his silky skills and goalscoring exploits for club and country. This season, the attacking midfielder bagged an impressive 16 Premier League goals and seven assists to drive City towards yet another title.

He’s also shone on the Champions League stage with five goals and three assists in Europe’s top club competition. Phil Foden is the third successive City player to take the FWA award after Ruben Dias and Erling Haaland.

His latest career accolade caps a remarkable rise for the Stockport-born starlet since making his senior debut back in 2017. Under the guidance of Pep Guardiola, Phil Foden has developed into a world-class talents and leader for club and country for years to come.
