According to reliable sources at THEBULLETIN, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II has been reinstated as the Emir of Kano. This decision comes after the Kano State House of Assembly passed a resolution to remove the current Emir and dissolve the four newly established Emirates under a controversial 2019 law.
While there has been no official announcement yet, THEBULLETIN has received credible information that Sanusi II has been reinstated and is expected to return to Kano on Friday.
Sources state, “With the passage of the Bill, Sanusi is automatically reinstated. No confirmation is needed; we just have to wait for the Governor to give his assent.”
The previous restructuring of the Kano Emirate was viewed as a political maneuver to diminish the influence of Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II, who had openly criticized the administration of former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje. The creation of the new Emirates was aimed at fragmenting the power and influence of the old Kano Emirate Council.
Meanwhile, Lawan Hussaini Chediyar Yan Gurasa, the Majority Leader of the Kano State House of Assembly and sponsor of the Amendment Bill, informed journalists that the bill has been sent to the governor for assent. Currently, there is no active Emir in any of the five Emirates: Kano, Bichi, Gaya, Rano, and Karaye. The law now empowers the governor to instruct the traditional kingmakers to select a new king.
Furthermore, our correspondent reports that all district heads who were elevated or appointed under the repealed law will revert to their previous positions.
