In a disturbing incident at Ajayi Crowther University in Oyo State, a 300-level student of the International Relations Department was allegedly raped by two university sheriffs inside a classroom.
According to reports by Vanguard, the student and her boyfriend were in class around 7 pm when the university sheriffs entered and demanded N5,000 from them. With only N1,500 available, the sheriffs allegedly sent the boyfriend away and assaulted the student.
A close friend and hostel mate of the victim, speaking anonymously to Vanguard, recounted the distressing events. The victim returned to the hostel in tears, revealing the ordeal she had suffered. Despite seeking help at the medical center, she faced blame and mistreatment.
Responding to the incident, the university management has launched an investigation and handed over the suspects to the state police. In an official statement on their communication platform, the university assured stakeholders of their commitment to addressing misconduct and maintaining their reputation for nurturing godly intellectuals.
Efforts to contact the Public Relations Officer of the Oyo State Police Command, SP Wale Osifeso, were unsuccessful at the time of reporting. However, the university’s proactive measures demonstrate their dedication to ensuring justice for the victim and upholding standards of integrity and accountability.
