Kaduna, August 18 — Former Minister of Environment, Mrs. Lawrencia Laraba-Mallam, has urged more women to get involved in politics. Speaking at a seminar organized by the Dignity of Women Commission at St. John’s Catholic Church, she emphasized the importance of female participation in political affairs.
Mrs. Laraba-Mallam expressed concern over Nigeria’s current economic challenges. She noted that these difficulties are driving youths towards negative activities like trafficking, domestic abuse, and kidnapping. She believes that women in politics can help address these issues and build a better nation.
The former Minister dispelled the misconception that politics is inherently corrupt. “We are just beginning to know the truth and we must be serious about this. God willing, we shall succeed,” she asserted.
Mrs. Laraba-Mallam pointed out that men currently dominate the economy, but she believes women have better management skills. “Women are better managers; they can make the most out of limited resources to support their families,” she said.
She concluded by stating that women’s voices are essential in parliaments to speak out against the ongoing issues in the country. “If you train a woman, you train a nation,” she added, reinforcing her call for more women to join politics for the greater good.
